Hi, welcome to my personal website! My name is Cherry Zhang, or 张樱子 (Chinese), or 張桜子 (Japanese) and I'm a self-motivated engineer, driven by my curiosity and passion.
Currently I am working at 株式会社人機一体, a unique R&D robotics company specializing in robotic control technologies. I am the primary controls engineer, but I also make physical simulations of the robots and model their kinematics and dynamics.
I graduated with Distinction from the University of Waterloo, getting on the Dean's Honours List (top 10 out of 100+ students in my cohort), majoring in Mechatronics Engineering (Honours, Co-op) with an Option (AKA a minor) in Management Sciences.
I love working on challenging problems, and am still continuously self-learning advanced topics in robotics, math, and computer science - see my LinkedIn for a list of online courses I've completed from Stanford Online & Northwestern University Online on Coursera. I have managed to get an internship and a raise at my current job, utilizing the skills I learned from these courses!
In terms of volunteering, I've taught music to refugee children, volunteered at hackathon workshops in Japan, and volunteered at engineering/robotics outreach events to highschool students and girls, but my favorite thing is helping tutoring high school students in STEM fields like physics and calculus. I have both informally tutored several high school students this way, and also officially tutored Syrian refugee high school students.
I have some nerdy hobbies, as I was an active leader of a 6000+ member online community for Gundam/Gunpla (Japanese science fiction robot franchise). I was also panelist for Gundam/Gunpla related panels at national conventions like Anime North and Otakuthon.
